Welcome to Greenway Heights

Welcome to Greenway Heights!

Greenway Heights is a neighborhood of approximately 135 homes set among the 39 acres of Greenway Heights Park in McLean, VA.  Homes are mostly brick colonials, and residents are a combination of original owners who moved in when the neighborhood was established in the 1970's, to young families who moved in recently, and all ages in between.  Greenway Heights is a neighborhood with trees and fields, and yet is just 3 miles from Tysons, 12 miles to the Kennedy Center and with easy access to all major transit routes in northern VA:  the Capitol Beltway, the Dulles Toll Road and the new Silver line of the Metro.  The neighborhood is also convenient to both National Airport and Dulles International Airport.

The neighborhood has a strong sense of community fostered by the many activities of the Greenway Heights Civic Association.  The Association is a voluntary dues collecting organization that organizes social activities, maintains the landscaping and general upkeep of the two entrances, on Old Dominion Drive and on Georgetown Pike, communicates important messages from our Dranesville Supervisor and the McLean Citizens Association regarding issues that are relevant to the neighborhood, and supports this website for even better communication among Greenway Heights neighbors.

The Greenway Heights Civic Association sponsored social events are the September picnic for everyone, the December Holiday Party for the adults, and the Easter Egg Hunt and the Halloween Parade for the little ones.  These events are enjoyed by many of the Greenway Heights residents and promote what the police have called the number one crime prevention tip:  know your neighbors! We’re happy to have you in our community and hope to see you at any or all of these events soon!
Easter Egg Hunt: Located in Buttercup Field on Hunting Hill Lane across from Sheffield Court, and usually held on Easter Sunday in the afternoon, children ten and under are welcomed for an egg hunt!

End-of-School celebration:
A casual gathering in Buttercup Field with popsicles to celebrate the start of summer!

Fall Picnic:
Our largest annual gathering, which is held in the large field on Kimberwicke, between Hunting Hill and Riding Ridge. Fun for the entire family and a great occasion to see neighbors and catch up after busy summers.

Halloween Parade: A chance for the kids to show off their costumes in daylight!

Holiday Party: Usually the first weekend of December, a festive event just for adults held either at the home of a generous neighbor, or at a nearby function hall.

Book Club: Active since 2006, neighbors meet monthly at different neighborhood homes to discuss books with light refreshments. For more information and to see our current reading list click here.

Volunteer Activities: We also hold periodic volunteer activities, such as donation collections and neighborhood clean-ups. If you are interested in leading an effort, please contact one of our officers.
